Mansfield ISD school board member Bianca Benavides Anderson was arrested for assault Saturday.

According to a statement from Mansfield police, "at approximately 2 a.m., the Mansfield Police Department responded to the 700 block of Ascot Park in reference to a domestic disturbance. During the investigation, officers determined that there was probable cause to arrest Bianca Benavides Anderson for Assault Bodily Injury Family Violence. She was transported to the Mansfield Jail and was released to the jail staff without incident."

Mansfield ISD school board president Courtney Lackey Wilson sent this statement to MISD staff  Monday morning:

"As has been reported by the Mansfield Record, MISD Board Secretary Bianca Benavides Anderson was arrested and charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury Family Violence on 10/22/22.  Because Anderson is an elected official and not an MISD employee, this issue must be handled by the MISD Board of Trustees. I have consulted with the District’s legal counsel and we are assessing and evaluating the situation."

The school board secretary was elected for her first three-year term in Place 5 in May. Anderson replaced Karen Marcucci, who chose not to run again for the school board seat. Anderson won 51 percent of the vote, defeating Jo Anna Cruz Cardoza and Le Keishia E. Dawkins.

Anderson has been contacted, and this story will be updated with her response.
