Mansfield ISD squads open district play this week

The Mansfield schools head into district competition after a mostly successful week on the football field.

Mansfield is first to play this week, meeting Red Oak in District 11-6A at 7 p.m. Thursday at Newsom Stadium for senior night. The Tigers (2-1) are riding a two-game winning streak, including a last-second win when Aaron Price nailed a field goal to defeat Plano, 31-28.

Timberview (7-5A DII) leads the Friday night slate with a homecoming game against Burleson at 7 p.m. Friday at Newsom Stadium. The Wolves (3-0) routed Richardson, 60-7 last week, and averaged 54 points a game in their three victories.

Legacy (8-5A DI) plays host to Cleburne at 7 p.m. Friday at R.L. Anderson Stadium. The Broncos (0-3) face a Yellowjackets team that has surrendered 179 points in three non-district contests.

Lake Ridge (11-6A) travels to face Waxahachie at 7 p.m. Friday at Lumpkin Stadium. The Eagles (2-1), riding a two-game win streak and averaging 46 points per game, topped Lake Highlands, 44-31, last week. They face a tall task in the top-ranked team in Class 6A.  

Summit (8-5A DI) visits Lancaster at 7 p.m. Friday at Lancaster Stadium. The Jaguars (1-2) scored their first victory of the season, defeating Midlothian Heritage, 42-19, last week.
