Methodist Mansfield honors heroic firefighter

Methodist Mansfield Medical Center has presented its prestigious Community Health Hero Award to Jason Horne, a Midlothian firefighter and former hospital employee, for his heroic efforts in saving the lives of three children at Alvarado Lake Park.

The life-saving rescue occurred on the Fourth of July while Horne was boating with his daughter. Flagged down for help near a capsized vessel, Horne immediately dove into the water. He pulled three trapped children from beneath the capsized boat and brought them to safety. Once onshore, Horne performed life-saving CPR on one unresponsive child. Thanks to his rapid intervention, all three children survived.

“Jason’s split-second decision to dive into danger represents the absolute highest standard of public service and human courage,” said Juan Fresquez Jr., President of Methodist Mansfield Medical Center. “His relentless determination underwater, followed by his expert application of CPR, is the exact reason the families are whole today. He didn't just step up; he carried out a miracle, and we are profoundly honored to recognize him as a true Community Health Hero.”

Horne’s extensive training as a Midlothian firefighter and his professional background in the Methodist Mansfield emergency department proved critical during the high-stakes rescue.
