Questions about the residency of the Mansfield ISD school board president arose last week, but an investigation found the trustee does meet residency requirements.

Prompted by citizen concerns, the school district asked its legal counsel Leasor Crass LLC to engage an independent investigation firm to determine Jandel Crutchfield's residency.

“After reviewing utility bills, mortgage statements, bank statements, other records, and personal interviews, the findings are conclusive that Dr. Jandel Crutchfield is a resident of Mansfield ISD and has been since at least 2018,” according to the statement from Leasor Crass. “She is therefore legally eligible to serve on the Board of Trustees.”

State law and Mansfield's school board policy requires trustee candidates to live in the district for at least six months before filing to run for a board seat, and trustees must be registered to vote in the district.

According to the Star-Telegram, tax records show Crutchfield owns a home on Cardinal Road in Mansfield, but the sworn affidavit she signed says it's an investment property.

A Star-Telegram article reported that Crutchfield appeared to designate a property in Itasca as her homestead residence. Crutchfield is not listed as that home's owner, according to Hill County property tax records and other public records. The Itasca property was sold to a couple in February with Crutchfield's husband, Johnoson Crutchfield, listed as the listing agent, according to Homes.com.

Crutchfield was elected to a three-year term at Place 2 on the school board in 2024. She was elected as school board president at the May 26 board meeting. A called meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. June 9.
