Speed Fab-Crete, a leading Texas-based manufacturer of precast concrete structures, announced the completion of the first of seven storm shelters for Mansfield Independent School District, marking a major milestone in the district’s commitment to student and staff safety.

The newly completed shelter, delivered and installed on schedule, is part of a districtwide initiative to enhance severe-weather protection across multiple campuses in Mansfield.

The shelter at Worley Middle School has been completed. Other Mansfield ISD facilities getting shelters are the Safety Operations Center (due to be complete in March), ELA-2 (April), Ben Barber Innovation Academy (May), T.A. Howard Middle School (June), Coble Middle School (June) and Danny Jones Middle School (July).

Designed to meet stringent safety standards for tornadoes and high winds, the storm shelters provide reinforced, ICC 500 FEMA-compliant protection while minimizing disruption to campus operations during construction. The shelters are designed to sustain EF-5 tornado-level winds.

Speed Fab-Crete’s precast concrete approach allows for accelerated production and installation compared to traditional construction methods. By manufacturing components off-site in a controlled environment, the company ensures:

- Faster project timelines

- Consistent quality control

- Reduced on-site disruption

- Long-term structural durability

“Safety is not optional when it comes to our schools,” said Ron Hamm, president of Speed Fab-Crete. “We are proud to partner with Mansfield ISD to deliver storm shelters that are built to protect lives and delivered with the efficiency school districts depend on.”

Texas communities face increasing risks from tornadoes and severe storms. By investing in purpose-built storm shelters, Mansfield ISD is taking proactive steps to safeguard students, teachers and staff.

With one of seven shelters now complete, Speed Fab-Crete is progressing on the remaining six structures to be completed by summer 2026. The phased rollout ensures that multiple campuses will soon have enhanced protection against severe Texas weather.

As a Texas-based manufacturer, Speed Fab-Crete remains committed to strengthening schools, municipalities and commercial partners with resilient infrastructure solutions built for long-term performance.

The completion of the first Mansfield ISD shelter demonstrates how safety, engineering precision, and efficient delivery work together to protect what matters most.
