Mansfield ISD plans Back-to-School Bash

Despite the 100-degree temperatures, the Mansfield ISD knows it’s time to get ready to go back to school – and the administrators, teachers and staff are ready to kick things off with the Back-to-School Bash from 7:30 a.m. to noon Aug. 1.

The free event, set at the Dr. Jim Vaszauskas Center for Performing Arts, 1110 W. Debbie Lane, will include free backpacks, school supplies, shoes, vaccinations, sports physicals and eye and dental exams. Students must be present to receive backpacks, school supplies and shoes. Limit four backpacks per family and two pairs of shoes per family.

Kids can also meet the administrators from their schools, play games, find out which bus to take and test out some light bites from school nutrition.

Students will also be providing entertainment, including performances from the Summit High School band, and all five high school cheer and drill teams.

Community groups and businesses will have activities, products and services in vendor booths throughout the center.

The annual event draws 10,000-14,000 people each year, so school officials advise arriving early and catching one of the free shuttles from Legacy High School, 1263 N. Main St., or from Summit High School, 1071 Turner-Warnell Road. Shuttles start at 7:15 a.m.
