Princesses, pumpkins and even Harry Potter crowded downtown Mansfield on Thursday evening for the annual Haunt the Block.
Vendor booths and games were scattered across the 100 block of North Main Street, which was shut down for the evening.
“This is good for Mansfield, good for all these businesses,” said Joe Jenkins, board chair and founder of the Mansfield Business Alliance, which sponsored the free event in conjunction with the city. “This is the second year that we have shut down the street. We had 6,000 people last year. We have 40 Business Alliance members out here handing out candy.
“When there’s a community that supports business, it helps everyone,” he said.
Bringing the community – and all the little ghosts and goblins – together was the purpose of the event, said Mansfield resident James Leggs.
“Unity in the community is great for a thriving city like Mansfield,” he said.
