Mansfield ISD’s Back-to-School Bash is celebrating nine years of bringing the district and the community together to prepare students for the new school year. For nearly a decade the first Saturday of August has drawn thousands of students, parents, staff and community members to the Dr. Jim Vaszauskas Center for the Performing Arts and Ben Barber Innovation Academy/Frontier STEM Academy campus.

Back-to-School Bash 2024 is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. to noon Aug. 3.

“This tradition is something we’re so proud of,” said Superintendent Kimberley Cantu. “Our community partners, faith organizations and local businesses have always been so supportive, and they come through each year to make sure our students have what they need to begin the school year.”

At the Back-to-School Bash, Mansfield ISD students receive backpacks stuffed with school supplies, new shoes, sports physicals, immunizations and other health services completely free of charge. The bash also offers lots of fun family-friendly games and activities for everyone to enjoy.

“It’s just become an amazing celebration where the entire community comes together,” said Board President Keziah Valdes Farrar. “Principals and teachers get to meet some of their new students, volunteers enjoy serving our MISD community and we all get to experience the food and fun together.”

At last year’s bash, 5,000 students received backpacks and volunteers gave away 1,500 pairs of brand-new shoes thanks to generous support from major sponsors including Academy Sports and Outdoors, Baylor Scott & White Orthopedic & Spine Hospital, Church on Rush Creek, Common Ground Network, Huckabee Architects, Mansfield Cares, Methodist Mansfield Medical Center and the Texas Trust Gives Foundation.

Every year, the cost of purchasing supplies and hosting the event increases, so Mansfield ISD is always ready to welcome those who have given in the past as well as new sponsors to contribute.
