A Legacy High School employee has been arrested for allegedly having a sexual relationship with a student.
Diego Barona, 35, has been charged with four counts of sexual contact with a child younger than 17 years old. Barona, who worked as a special education aide at the school, was fired by the Mansfield ISD the day that the allegation was made, according to the school district.
"On Jan. 30, a parent reached out to the Mansfield ISD and alleged that Legacy High School paraprofessional employee, Diego Barona, was having a sexual relationship with a student," according to a statement from the district. "That same day, MISD's Human Resources Department terminated Barona and the MISD Police Department immediately launched an investigation.
"After the MISD Police Department's investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for Barona on Feb. 20, and he turned himself in to authorities on Feb. 22," according to the Mansfield ISD statement.
If convicted, the second-degree felony is punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
