Water Wings Swim School, a year-round swim school dedicated to helping children build confidence in and around the water and part of youth enrichment platform Unleashed Brands, is making waves in Mansfield-Arlington South with the opening of its newest location at 6501 South Cooper St., Suite 101-C. The school will celebrate its grand opening Sept. 26, bringing families a fun, supportive environment where swimmers of all ages can develop essential water safety skills, achieve personal milestones and discover a lifelong love of the water.
The new Water Wings Swim School location is owned and operated by husband-and-wife team Ekene and Rosaline Ogbechie, local entrepreneurs with professional backgrounds in the oil and gas industry, where Ekene worked as an subsea engineer and Rosaline as a professional accountant. While living in Scotland, the couple became passionate about expanding access to water safety education after learning that drowning is one of the leading causes of death in Nigeria. Inspired to make a difference, they invested their life savings to open Nigeria's first heated indoor swim academy in 2022, creating opportunities for children and families to learn lifesaving swim skills year-round. After relocating from Scotland to the United States, the Ogbechies recognized a similar need for accessible, year-round swim education in Mansfield-Arlington South and partnered with Water Wings to continue their mission of helping children and families build confidence, develop essential water safety skills and prevent drowning. Looking ahead, they hope to open 10 swim schools over the next 10 years in communities with limited access to quality swim instruction, including future expansion in Africa.
"Opening our swim school in Nigeria and seeing the impact it had on helping save lives reinforced just how important access to quality swim education can be," said Rosaline. "That experience inspired my husband and me to continue our mission here in the Mansfield-Arlington South area. Through Water Wings, we hope to equip every swimmer with the confidence and skills they need to be safe in and around the water while expanding access to communities that need it most.”
The community is invited to celebrate the grand opening of Water Wings Mansfield-Arlington South during its Splash Bash, Saturday, Sept. 26. Guests will have the opportunity to tour the facility, meet instructors, learn about Water Wings’ swim programs and enjoy family-friendly activities designed to celebrate the school’s arrival in the community.
Following the Splash Bash, Water Wings Mansfield-Arlington South will host free preview classes Monday through Friday, Sept. 28-Oct. 2, giving families the opportunity to experience lessons before the school's official opening.
