In a game shortened by multiple lightning warnings, Lake Ridge fell to Waxahachie, 30-0, on Friday night at Vernon Newsom Stadium.

Waxahachie (7-2, 4-2 11-6A) took the opening kickoff and drove 75 yards, scoring on a four-yard run by Wade Lemons for an early 7-0 lead. Quarterback Ramon McKinney Jr.’s 33-yard run helped set up the TD.

An onside kick, which Lake Ridge’s Kie Jones recovered, gave the Eagles (0-9, 0-1) great field position at their own 49-yard line. However, Lake Ridge turned over the ball on downs, giving Waxahachie a start at the Indians’ 44-yard line.

Lake Ridge’s defense held and forced a punt, but a fumble at their own 19-yard line, recovered by Waxahachie, set up Ethan Guillen’s 37-yard field goal to put Waxahachie up, 10-0, with just under 4 minutes left in the first quarter.

The teams traded possessions before the quarter ended with the first lightning delay, which lasted an hour.

After the delay, Lake Ridge continued its drive. On the first play, Zavier Washington carried for three yards, and Waxahachie was flagged for unnecessary roughness, putting the ball at the Waxahachie 27-yard line. A 19-yard run by Tre’Quan Murphy gave the Eagles a first-and-goal at the 8-yard line, but the drive ended on an unsuccessful field-goal attempt.

Waxahachie tacked on three touchdowns in 7 minutes, the last a 25-yard pass from McKinney to Trenton Kidd for a 30-0 lead.

After halftime, lightning nearby caused another delay, during which more threatening weather led officials to cancel the second half.
