Food bank plans mobile food distributions

HIM Food Bank has helped a lot of Mansfield-area residents through some rough times, and now they’re set to do even more.

The food bank will hold five Mega Mobile Markets, plus a Thanksgiving giveaway, before the end of the year, passing out 100 pounds of food to 1,500 families at each event. Mega Mobile Markets will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Aug. 24, Sept. 14, Sept. 28, Oct. 26 and Dec. 14 at the Dr. Jim Vazauskas Center for Performing Arts, 1110 W. Debbie Lane.

“We are taking over for the Tarrant Area Food Bank for the southwest portion of the DFW Metroplex,” said Lisa Richardson, CEO of HIM Food Bank. “All of Johnson County and South Arlington will be welcome.”

HIM Food Bank also will continue to pass out food from their location at 150 S. 6th Ave. between 9 a.m.-noon every Thursday and the first and third Tuesday of the month, when they pass out 300 pounds of food to recipients.

The food bank has already begun planning for Thanksgiving distribution, when they hope to pass out 5,000 meals from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Nov. 21 at the Vazauskas Center for Performing Arts.

“The need has grown 35 percent in the area because of inflation,” Richardson said. “People are working but they don’t have the funds. It’s worse than it was in COVID.”
