The Tarrant Area Food Bank Ready To Learn Initiative will partners with H-E-B and Mansfield ISD to open The Jaguar Den In-School Market at Summit High School on Sept. 12.
One in 4 children face hunger across the Tarrant Area Food Bank’s 13-county service area. Tarrant Area Food Bank is working to change that through its Ready To Learn initiative by opening 100 in-school markets across its service area in 2024. The Ready to Learn Initiative is designed to increase access to nutritious food and essential nutrition resources for families with school-aged children who live in food insecurity.
The grand opening ceremony from 9-10 a.m. Sept. 12 will include a brief address from representatives from the Tarrant Area Food Bank, H-E-B, Mansfield ISD and the City of Mansfield. The event will conclude with a ceremonial ribbon cutting at Summit High School, 1071 Turner Warnell Road in Arlington.
Summit High School families and community members are invited to celebrate this significant milestone. Food assistance will be made available following the grand opening ceremony program.
The USDA estimates one in seven people and one in five children experienced food insecurity in 2022. Locally, there are more than 500,000 people who face food insecurity across the Tarrant Area Food Bank’s 13-county service area including nearly 184,000 children. Through their network of over 450 partner agencies, TAFB provides access to over 1 million nutritious meals weekly to children and adults facing hunger. This work resulted in access to 40 million nutritious meals in fiscal year 2022. Learn more at www.tafb.org.
