This weekend, an all-Black baseball team from the Texas Rangers Youth Academy will head to Kansas City for the Negro Leagues Museum Invitational.
During the three-day trip, the athletes will attend a Royals game at Kauffman Stadium and tour the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, learning the history of baseball’s Negro Leagues and its talented ballplayers. The players will not only gain a deeper appreciation for the history of the game but will also be inspired by the stories of resilience and excellence that shaped the Negro Leagues. This experience is expected to impact how they view their roles as athletes and stewards of the community.
Three local athletes will participate: Vincent Hood, Legacy High; Nicholas Smith, Timberview; and Trenton Parker, Lake Ridge.
