Texas high school coaching veteran Courtney Allen was named the new head football coach at Legacy High School last week.

He replaces Jeff Hulme, who left after five seasons to become the associate head coach and defensive coordinator at Eastern New Mexico State under his former high school coach, Art Briles.

Allen has spent 17 years as a high school coach in Texas, with his last stop as a head coach at Mesquite Horn from 2022-25. Before that, he was the head coach at North Crowley beginning in 2018.

Legacy finished 4-6 last season, one year after reaching the Class 6A playoffs. The Broncos were placed into Class 5A for 2026 in the biennial UIL realignment announced Monday.

In three seasons with Mesquite Horn, Allen produced a 15-16 record, with a playoff appearance in 2022.

At North Crowley, he turned around the Panthers’ fortunes, logging six total wins in his first two seasons before back-to-back 7-4 records and consecutive playoff appearances to set the team on its trajectory to becoming a 6A state powerhouse.
