Filing opens for city council, school board

Mansfield will go to the polls in May to select two council members and two school board trustees.

Candidates can file for the May 2 elections until Feb. 13.

On the City Council, Places 6 and 7 are up for election.

Local businessman Todd Tonore was first elected to Place 6 in November 2020. He currently serves as mayor pro tem.

Businessman Larry Broseh has served six three-year terms at Place 7, first being elected in 1999 and serving one term, then re-elected in 2005 and serving five consecutive terms.

As of Thursday, no one had filed for either seat.

On the Mansfield ISD school board, Places 6 and 7 will be on the ballot.

Current school board president Benita Reed has filed to run for her second three-year term at Place 6. Reed is a college English professor.

At Place 7, former school board president Courtney Lackey Wilson has filed for another term. She has been elected to the seat five times, but had to resign in 2021 due to health reasons. She was re-elected in 2023.

Mansfield City Council and Mansfield ISD school board members are elected to three-year terms.

Candidates for the Mansfield ISD school board can pick up a packet at the school administration building, 605 E. Broad St. School board candidates must be at least 18 years old, have been a resident of the district for 12 months before filing and be a registered voter in the district.

Candidates for the Mansfield City Council can obtain a packet at City Hall, 1200 E. Broad St., or by contacting the City Secretary at 817-276-4203. Council candidates must be a city resident for at least 12 months before the election and be a qualified Texas voter.

Early voting will run from April 20-28 for the May 2 election.
