4-H and FFA graduating high school seniors in the Mansfield area are eligible to apply for the AgYouth of the Month Scholarship Program that AgTexas Farm Credit created 10 years ago.

So far, the program has awarded more than $200,000 in scholarships to students in the 43 counties that AgTexas serves. In addition to the $20,000 awarded in $1,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors, AgTexas will present awards to a graduate student and a 4-H or

FFA leader in each of the three regions that the Ag cooperative serves.

The graduate scholarships will be presented to previous AgYouth of the Month scholarship recipients in the amounts of $2,000, $3,000, and $10,000. AgTexas will also provide a $1,000 award for the outstanding 4-H or FFA leader in each region. Applications are due at noon Nov. 7.

In total, AgTexas will award $38,000 to graduating high school seniors, graduate students and 4-H or FFA leaders. AgTexas is also supporting area FFA chapters competing at the National FFA convention with $2,000 in travel expenses per chapter.

Applying students will submit an essay that describes:

- Their involvement with their local FFA Chapter and/or 4-H Club

- Their accomplishments, awards and leadership positions

- Their participation in high school, including student activities, accomplishments, awards and leadership positions

- Their volunteer work in their community

- Their vision for where they will be in five years

- Their commitment to agriculture

According to AgTexas President/CEO Kayla Robinson, “Providing recognition and scholarships for outstanding students interested in agriculture is one of the most effective ways to encourage our best and brightest youths to join our mission of helping feed and clothe the

world.

“We love the excitement of celebrating with energetic 4-H and FFA students because they bring such positivity into the room," Robinson said. "Graduation season will be a special time in their lives, and we enjoy hearing about their hopes and dreams.”
