Historical: Meat Market & Cafe, ca. 1900

"Bud" Strahan was the original owner of the Meat Market & Cafe, 128 N. Water (now Main) St., which is now the home of Matthew Crocker Accountants. John Huitt worked for Strahan, learned the trade and eventually took over the business. Strahan was said to have had the world's best chili recipe. Claude Galloway delivered 3,000 pounds of ice each Friday, using the upper door to hoist the ice into the building. Shown are John Huitt, Lena Branson Brantley and an unnamed individual in 1900.
