Methodist Mansfield Medical Center announce that Paramedics Alec Burch, Brent Nichols and Daniel Dudley of Grand Prairie Fire Department Station 10 have been named the 2025 Paramedics of the Year for their extraordinary lifesaving efforts during a critical trauma response earlier this year.
The crew was recognized for their exceptional care during a Jan. 24, 2025, call, when they responded to a violent assault at a private residence. The patient sustained multiple life-threatening injuries and was in an unstable condition when the team arrived. In just 14 minutes from initial contact to arrival at Methodist Mansfield, the paramedics performed advanced trauma care that included applying chest seals, initiating spinal precautions, establishing two IVs and administering TXA — all while ensuring rapid and safe transport.
Upon arrival, it was clear the patient had suffered extensive and complex traumatic injuries, including severe head, chest, abdominal and vascular trauma. He required numerous surgeries and intensive care, but thanks to the quick actions and expert care provided by the EMS team, he survived and was ultimately transferred to a rehabilitation facility to continue his recovery.
“This patient is alive today because of the outstanding work of these paramedics,” said Mark Shapiro, MDtrauma surgeon on staff at Methodist Mansfield, who submitted the nomination. “Their skill, speed and teamwork exemplify what it means to serve with excellence.”
