A Mansfield woman was stabbed Saturday night after opening her door to a stranger, according to Mansfield police.

The victim, a 49-year-old woman, was stabbed twice in her torso after the unknown assailant attempted to enter her home in the 400 block of South Main Street. The suspect fled the scene and has not been located, police said.

The victim was transported to Methodist Mansfield Medical Center, where she is listed in stable condition.

Mansfield officers responded to a report of a stabbing at approximately 10:27 p.m. The police searched the area and interviewed witnesses at the scene, but were unable to locate anyone in connection with the incident.

The victim told police that she heard a knock on her door, followed by her locked door handle being twisted. She said she then opened her front door to find a man inquiring about a family acquaintance. The man was holding a kitchen knife and stabbed her twice before fleeing on foot, she said. No one else was injured in the attack.

Police believe that this is an isolated incident.

The suspect is described as a male with black to medium complexion, “younger,” thin to average build, approximately 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-9 with short hair.
