A Mansfield resident was shot twice when his wife allegedly opened fire on him at their home early Friday morning.
Mansfield police responded to a 911 call from a man who said that his wife, who was allegedly intoxicated, had shot him inside their home in the 2600 block of Woodbridge Trail at approximately 1:40 a.m.
The victim sustained two gunshot wounds and stated he had been shot at approximately 10 times, police said. Despite his injuries, he was able to flee the home to seek help. Responding officers quickly rendered aid. An EMT certified Mansfield police officer provided emergency care until the victim could be safely transferred to Mansfield Fire Department paramedics, who transported him to a local hospital where he is expected to survive his injuries.
After the incident, the female suspect remained inside the couple’s residence, police said. A Mansfield officer certified in crisis negotiation established communication with the suspect and successfully convinced her to exit the home peacefully. She was taken into custody without further incident, according to police.
Detectives from the Mansfield Police Department Criminal Investigations Division are conducting the investigation. The suspect was transported to the Mansfield jail and charged with aggravated assault/family violence.
