Tire explosion rocks Mansfield

A mobile crane tire explosion on US 287 rattled windows across Mansfield, shut down northbound traffic and seriously injured the driver Sunday night.

The tire explosion started a fire in the brakes of the TNT Crane & Rigging mobile crane and startled residents from South Arlington to Venus.

Mansfield police and firefighters responded to the truck fire at approximately 8: 45 p.m. on US 287 between Heritage Parkway and East Broad Street. The fire was contained to the axle and wheel system.

The driver of the mobile crane was standing near the tires and sustained serious injuries. He was transported to a local hospital.
