Telephone switchboard operators Myrtle Thomas and Maggie West are shown at work on the second floor of the Knights of Pythias Building, also known as the McKnight Building, at 101 E. Broad St. in 1905. Joseph Edwards installed the lines and was the first owner-operator. The system was purchased by Southwestern Bell in about 1913.
