The Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo ended its 126th edition by setting a new attendance record, along with a record Junior Sale of Champions auction benefitting Texas 4-H and FFA youth.
“Every year, we tell ourselves we can be better, and the fact is, it’s our job to make it that way,” said Stock Show President and General Manager Brad Barnes. “The enthusiasm, energy and excitement that people shared for this year’s show was reflected in the numbers and for that we say a huge ‘thank you’ to all our guests, exhibitors, competitors, volunteers and donors that continue to make the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo legendary.”
Total attendance for the show reached slightly more than 1.27 million visitors, topping the previous record set in 2020 of 1.26 million. The show saw its greatest number of visitors Jan. 28, when nearly 163,000 fans passed through the gates. Attendance is calculated based on ticket sales and electronic scans at ticket gates.
A record-breaking $7.5 million was raised for the Junior Sales of Champions punctuated by a $440,000 bid from Higginbotham Insurance and Financial Services for the Grand Champion Steer of the Show exhibited by Canyon 4-H member, Sadie Wampler.
More than 350 individuals, corporations and foundations stepped up supporting the Stock Show’s mission of enhancing educational opportunities for Texas youth. Buying organizations including the Fort Worth Stock Show Syndicate, Women Steering Business, Ladies on the Lamb, Tallest Hog at the Trough and U Ol’ Goat played pivotal roles in smashing the previous record of $6.1 million set just last year.
Dickies Arena rodeo fans also saw a record fall on the arena floor during the FWSSR PRORODEO Tournament. Tanner Butner of Daniel, Wy., marked an eye-popping score of 94 in the saddle bronc riding, toppling the record set by Stetson Wright of Milford, Utah, of a 91.5 in 2022.
The 2024 Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo will take place Jan. 12 through Feb. 3. Information on rodeo ticket sales and livestock and horse entries will be available later this summer.
