Luverne "Lu" Quemuel was a caring sister, aunt, godmother and friend. She left this world all too suddenly June 2, 2022, at the age of 74.

She was born to Trinidad and Louis Dela Cruz on May 25, 1948, in Honolulu, Hawaii. The youngest of six siblings, Lu was known to all her relatives as "Girlie" and will be remembered for her jovial nature and generosity. After graduating from high school, Luverne chased her dreams to serve her nation and the troops through her long career with the Army and Air Force Exchange Service, with various duty locations in the CONUS and Europe. She retired in 2006 after 30-plus years of dedicated service.

Luverne had very close circle of friends who surrounded her in her Mansfield community. In fact, she often referred to these friends as family and she often recalled their escapades over the years. To her family, "Auntie Girlie" was a loving fixture at every family event all over the country for their entire lives. She never missed a birthday, graduation, first communion, holiday or wedding and was loved and adored by her countless nieces and nephews, who ensured she was at the top of the guest list for every special event.

One of her favorite things to do was travel with her sister and best friend, Louella Santiago. Not only did they both enjoy playing the slots at casinos around the country, but they travelled the world together and visited 12 different countries and created amazing memories of global adventures. Luverne's final two weeks were spent in their beautiful childhood state of Hawaii, where they were able to visit with family, eat their favorite foods and joyfully relive old memories.

A Celebration of Life is scheduled for 10 a.m. July 15, 2022, at Blessing Funeral Home, 401 Elm St. in Mansfield. A reception will immediately follow at the Blessing Funeral Home Stateroom.

Additionally, the family will be hosting a small, private ceremony to commit her remains to its final resting place at the Hawaiian Memorial Park, Garden of Reflections, at 45-425 Kamehameha Hwy in Kaneohe. A reception at Pah Ke's Restaurant at 46-018 Kamehameha Hwy in Kaneohe will follow starting at noon.
