Mansfield ISD’s football teams are back on the field this week with two games on Thursday night and two on Friday night, including a district rivalry game.
Legacy starts its 2023 season by meeting Richland at 7 p.m. Thursday at R.L. Anderson Stadium, 1015 Magnolia St.
Timberview also opens at 7 p.m. Thursday, playing host to South Grand Prairie at Vernon Newsom Stadium, 3700 E. Broad St.
Friday features a matchup between district rivals Lake Ridge and Summit at 7 p.m. at Newsom Stadium.
Mansfield plays host to Waco Midway at 7 p.m. Friday at R.L. Anderson.
Three of the Mansfield ISD’s football teams are coming off playoff appearances in 2022. Timberview took the deepest run into the playoffs, logging a 13-1 record, with the Wolves’ lone loss coming in the Class 5A Division I Region I final, where they were defeated by Longview, 37-21. Timberview is ranked No. 5 in Class 5A Division I in Texas Football’s rankings.
Summit reached the playoffs last year for the fifth consecutive season, falling to eventual state champion South Oak Cliff, 12-7, in the Class 5A Division II bidistrict round. The Jaguars are ranked No. 19 in Class 5A Division II by Texas Football.
Mansfield also reached the bidistrict round, in Class 6A Division I, losing to Harker Heights, 26-2.
