Mansfield football teams wrap up regular season

Mansfield wrapped up its football season with a 63-24 loss to DeSoto on Thursday night.

The Tigers (6-4, 3-4 11-6A), competing in a district that features several perennial state powers, miss the playoffs, finishing behind DeSoto (No. 2 in Texas Football’s 6A state rankings), Duncanville (No. 5), Waxahachie and Cedar Hill.

On Friday, Summit (6-3, 5-1 5-5A DII) plays host to Ennis ( ) at 7 p.m. at Vernon Newsom Stadium for second place in District 5-5A Division II. Both teams will advance to the postseason, with opponents and matchups to be decided. The district champion is Midlothian Heritage (9-0, 6-0), which is ranked No. 3 by Texas Football.

Among the other Mansfield ISD schools on Thursday, Legacy (3-7, 2-5 11-6A) lost to Duncanville (9-1, 6-1 11-6A) , 35-3, wrapping up the Broncos’ season. Lake Ridge (0-10, 0-7 11-6A) fell to Cedar Hill (10-0, 7-0 11-6A), 37-6, to end the Eagles’ season.

Timberview (9-1, 7-1, 5-5A DI) defeated Dallas Bryan Adams, 55-0, at R.L. Anderson Stadium. The Wolves will advance to the playoffs beginning next week, with the opponent and date to be determined.
