Multiple vehicle thefts and car break-ins have been reported in Mansfield in the past several months.

The Mansfield Police Department wants to remind everyone to remain vigilant in securing their vehicles overnight to prevent vehicle theft and burglary.

Here are some tips from the Texas Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority on how to secure your vehicle and belongings overnight:

- Always lock your vehicle and take your keys.

- Never leave your car running and unattended.

- Park in a well-lit area.

- Take valuables with you when you are not in your vehicle.

- Keep valuables out of sight.

These steps may seem simple, however, keys left inside vehicles and doors unlocked remain major factors in stolen and burglarized vehicles.

Some other considerations include parking your vehicle near a camera and/or installing an anti-theft device.
