Legacy answered Lake Ridge’s second-half comeback by scoring two fourth-quarter touchdowns on the way to a 27-14 victory Friday night at Vernon Newsom Stadium.

The Broncos (3-5, 2-3 11-6A) scored the only points in the first half on a 13-yard pass from Roman Steele to Brandon Young Jr. to take a 7-0 halftime lead, then added another score midway through the third quarter to go up 13-0 on a 20-yard strike from Steele to Jackson Carr, who made a leaping catch at the 6-yard line and raced into the end zone.

The Eagles (0-8, 0-5 11-6A) mounted back-to-back scoring drives in the third quarter to take their first lead of the game, 14-13, with 19 seconds left in the third quarter.

First, Lake Ridge crafted a 10-play, 75-yard drive, largely behind the running of quarterback Marcus Hayes, who started the drive with a 20-yard carry and capped it with a four-yard TD dash.

Then, after Caleb Woods intercepted a Legacy pass at midfield, the Eagles quickly moved down the field, scoring in 30 seconds on a one-yard run by Tre’Quan Murphy to make it 14-13 in Lake Ridge’s favor.

On its next drive, Legacy needed only six plays to move 69 yards for a score. Steele’s 19-yard pass over the middle to Lewis Wilkerson on third-and-13 kept the drive alive, and Kaidan Johnson went 28 yards for a touchdown on the next play, putting Legacy back in front, 20-14.

Legacy forced Lake Ridge to punt on its next drive, then the Eagles had an apparent touchdown on an interception return nullified by a roughing-the-passer penalty, giving the Broncos a first down near midfield. Later in the drive, a pair of back-to-back passes from Steele to Wilkerson, one for 13 yards on third-and-17 and the other for 29 yards on fourth-and-four, gave Legacy a first-and-goal from the 5-yard line. Johnson’s second TD run of the night capped the scoring, 27-14.

Lake Ridge moved downfield, but Landon Isbell’s interception in the end zone with 1:25 sealed the win for Legacy.
